This study involves the resolution of problems encountered in test handlers, such as jamming and over-rejection. The root cause of these issues
was isolated to the tools used in the lead trimming and forming steps of assembly. A machine-to-machine comparison within the lead forming process was conducted to determine why, for the same package and lead type, one machine will cause over-rejection at Test while another would meet Test yield requirements. The comparison revealed that although the lead spreads produced by the machines were within specs, minor deviations of the lead angle affect product testing. Modification of the form tool dimensions and material was done to address lead angle deviation. This modification resulted in major improvements in assembly ppm and test yields.
