The Shrink Plastic Dual In-line Package, or SPDIP, is a rectangular plastic package with leads extending from both of its long sides, thus forming two sets of in-line pins. The SPDIP is actually just a 'shrink' version of the PDIP. As such, the SPDIP provides a smaller package size compared to a standard PDIP for the same lead count.
The SPDIP comes in several body widths, i.e., 300 mils, 400 mils, 600 mils and 750 mils. Most SPDIP IC's have lead counts that range from 28 to 64. The SPDIP is a through-hole package, which means that its leads protrude to the other side of the circuit board once mounted. The standard lead pitch of the SPDIP is 70 mils.
